Searching for a boiler engineer, an emergency electrician or a locksmith in London is rarely a calm decision. People search from their phone, often with something already broken, and they ring the first business that looks trustworthy and answers. If you run a trade or home service business in London, Google Ads can put you in that moment, but the account has to be built around how London actually works: tight travel times, parking and vehicle charges, strict gas safety rules and a lot of competition. I am Bharat Rajput, a freelance Google Ads and PPC specialist with 6+ years of experience in SEO and Google Ads and 20+ Google Ads accounts, mostly for local service businesses that depend on calls. I work remotely from Bhopal, India. This page explains how I would plan Google Ads for a London business, what I check before your budget is spent, and how we would work across the time difference.
Guide

What makes London different for Google Ads

London is not one local market. A plumber working in Croydon and a plumber working in Camden may both say “London”, but the journey, the parking, the customer type and the competition differ. If your campaign targets the whole city and you can only serve three boroughs well, you pay for calls you cannot take.
Transport for London states that the Ultra Low Emission Zone operates across all London boroughs and the City of London, and that a non-compliant vehicle pays a daily charge for travelling inside it. The amount and rules can change, so check TfL for the current position. For a business with vans, this changes the maths of a job. A small repair at a long distance may cost more to attend than it earns. I would use this when choosing your service areas and when deciding which jobs your ads should invite, so the campaign sends you work that is worth the journey.

Rules your ads should respect

Some trades in the UK come with legal requirements that customers and Google both pay attention to. The UK government’s licence page states that you need to be on the Gas Safe Register to work on gas fittings and gas storage vessels in the UK, and that carrying out gas work without registration is illegal. If you are a heating or boiler business, your Gas Safe registration is not a small detail. It is one of the strongest trust signals you can show, and it belongs in your ad text, your page and your reviews.
Google also runs Local Services Ads in the United Kingdom, which has its own screening and verification steps. I would look at whether your trade is eligible and whether it complements search ads, instead of assuming one format fits everyone.

How the work runs

How I would plan your London campaign

I start from your numbers, then build a plan that fits your service area. The steps below are the ones I would follow.

Pick boroughs, not just the word London

I would list the boroughs and postcode areas where you can attend jobs at a sensible cost, then target those locations and review the results every week. Areas that bring calls we cannot convert, or jobs outside your range, get excluded. Google lets you target by country, area or radius, and advanced options control whether you reach people in a location, people interested in it, or both, so I check those settings instead of leaving the defaults.

Separate emergency and planned work

“Boiler not working” and “boiler replacement cost” are different customers. The first wants an engineer today. The second is comparing quotes. They need different ads, different pages and sometimes different budgets. I would also keep your brand name, competitor names and your own service names in separate groups so the results are easy to read.

Match ads to your opening hours

Google lets you choose the days and hours when ads show. If nobody can answer at 11pm, I would plan around it, either by pausing or by sending the enquiry to a form. A missed call on a paid click is the most expensive outcome.

Track what matters

Before I raise a budget, I set up tracking for calls from ads, calls from your website and form enquiries. That way we judge the account by real enquiries and, where you share the data, by booked jobs.
Guide

Pricing and budget, without made-up numbers

I will not publish a London cost per click here. It changes by trade, postcode and season, and a number I cannot source would only mislead you. Google Keyword Planner gives estimated ranges for the exact keywords you want, and I use that along with the first weeks of your own data to set a starting budget. Ad spend is paid to Google from your own account in pounds, and my management fee is agreed with you in writing before the work begins.
Guide

Your website and what the click lands on

A good campaign still fails on a weak page. For London trades I check that the page loads fast on mobile, shows a tap to call button immediately, repeats the service the person searched for, lists the boroughs you cover and displays your registrations, such as Gas Safe where relevant. If the page needs work, I will say so before scaling spend. My SEO page covers the organic side.
Guide

Working together across the time difference

London is about 4.5 to 5.5 hours behind India depending on the season, so we share a decent part of the working day. I can review your account in my afternoon, which is your morning, and send an update you can read before the day gets busy. The account stays in your name. You can see all spend, and we agree on how often I report. I am based in India, not London, and I want you to know that up front. For other UK cities, see Manchester and Birmingham, and Google Ads for electricians if you run an electrical business.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Google Ads is managed online, so the work does not depend on where I sit. We would agree update times that suit your day.

It depends on the trade, the areas you serve and what a job is worth. I would check keyword estimates and start with a budget large enough to collect meaningful calls, then adjust with real data.

They are different formats. Local Services Ads have their own verification steps, and eligibility depends on your category and location. I would check what is available for your business and test what fits, instead of picking one blindly.

Yes. I can audit it, show where money is wasted and fix the structure, keywords, locations and tracking, or recommend a clean restart.

No. Nobody can promise a position or a fixed number of leads. I can explain what I will set up, track and report.
