If you run an AC, plumbing, roofing or electrical business in Houston, you already know how fast demand can change. A heat wave can send a wave of people searching for AC repair in the same afternoon, and a storm week can fill the phones with roof and water damage calls. Google Ads can put your business in front of those people at the moment they search, but only if the account is set up for how Houston customers actually behave. I am Bharat Rajput, a freelance Google Ads and PPC specialist. I have 6+ years of experience in SEO and Google Ads and have worked on 20+ Google Ads accounts, mostly for local service businesses that live on phone calls. I work remotely from Bhopal, India, and this page explains how I would plan Google Ads for a Houston business, what I check before spending your money, and what working together across the time difference looks like.
Guide

Why Google Ads suits Houston service businesses

Houston is a big, spread-out metro. According to a US Census Bureau review of metro area trends, the Houston-Pasadena-The Woodlands area added more than 198,000 people in the year it covered, second only to the New York area in numeric growth. A growing metro means a steady flow of new homes, new residents who do not yet have a favourite plumber or AC company, and many competitors bidding for the same searches.
The climate adds a second pattern. Houston has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers, and the National Weather Service publishes a yearly hurricane guide for Southeast Texas because the Gulf coast faces tropical storm risk. For a home service business this means demand is not flat. AC searches climb when summer heat arrives, and storm related searches such as roof repair, flooded rooms or power problems can jump after bad weather. A campaign that is set once and left alone will either run out of budget at the worst moment or keep spending when you are fully booked.
Search ads suit this kind of work because the customer is usually urgent. Someone with a dead AC in July does not browse five websites over a week. They search, tap a call button and talk to the first business that picks up.

Which Houston businesses I can help

I plan Google Ads mainly for businesses where one phone call or one booked job has a clear value:
If your business is outside this list, tell me what you sell. I will tell you honestly whether Google Ads is likely to pay for itself or whether another channel makes more sense first.
How the work runs

How I would plan your Houston campaign

I do not copy a campaign from another city. A Houston plan starts with your own numbers and your service area.

Service area and location targeting

Houston customers are spread across a very large area, and a technician cannot drive anywhere in the metro for the same cost. Google Ads lets you target countries, areas within a country or a radius around a location. I would set the areas you actually serve, exclude areas you do not, and review the location report after a few weeks to see which neighbourhoods give real calls. Google’s default targets people in or regularly in a location as well as people who showed interest in it, so I check this setting carefully to keep your budget on customers who can actually book you.

Keywords that match urgent jobs

I separate emergency searches from planned work. “AC not cooling” and “burst pipe repair” usually mean someone wants help today. “AC installation quote” or “tankless water heater replacement” often means a larger job and a longer decision. These groups get different ads, budgets and landing pages. I also build a negative keyword list early so you do not pay for job seekers, DIY searches or services you do not offer.

Ad schedule and call handling

Google Ads lets you set the days and hours when ads show, so you can match the schedule to when someone can answer. If your team cannot take calls at night, I would rather pause ads or send callers to a form than pay for missed calls. If you do offer emergency service, I would plan the budget so it lasts through the busiest hours.

Tracking calls and forms

I set up conversion tracking before spending serious money. That means tracking calls from ads, calls from your website, and form submissions, so we judge the campaign by enquiries and booked jobs, not just clicks.

Licences, trust and what your ads should say

Home services in Texas are regulated, and customers look for signs that you are legitimate. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation states that contractors who install, repair or maintain air conditioning, refrigeration or heating systems must hold a TDLR licence, and plumbing is licensed through the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners. If you hold a licence, it belongs in your ads and landing page, because it answers a worry before the customer asks. I would only use claims you can prove, such as your licence, years in business, service area and real review count. I do not write “best in Houston” or “guaranteed results” style lines, because they are hard to prove and can cause trouble with ad review.

Landing page and website basics

An ad can only do half the work. If the click lands on a slow page with no phone number above the fold, the money is wasted. For Houston service businesses I check that the page loads quickly on a phone, shows the call button without scrolling, repeats the service the person searched for, and lists your service area and licence details. When your website is the weak part, I can suggest fixes before we scale spend. My SEO page explains how organic search can work alongside paid ads over time.

Budget and costs in plain words

I will not quote a cost per click for Houston here, because it changes by service, season and competition, and any number I invented would be a guess. Google’s own Keyword Planner shows estimated bid ranges for the keywords you care about, and I use that and your first few weeks of data to set a realistic starting budget. Your ad spend is paid directly to Google from your own account in your currency, and my management fee is agreed separately before we begin.

Working with me across the time difference

I work from Bhopal, India. Houston is roughly 10.5 to 11.5 hours behind India depending on daylight saving time, so my working day overlaps with your evening. In practice that means I can review the account in my morning, which is your previous evening, and send you a short update before your day starts. Account access stays in your name, you can see every dollar spent, and we agree the reporting rhythm at the start. I am not a Houston based agency, and I would rather say that clearly than hide it. If you also serve North Texas or the Southeast, see my pages for Dallas and Atlanta, or read about Google Ads for HVAC companies if cooling is your main trade.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

It depends on your service, competition and the value of a job. I would check Keyword Planner estimates and start with a budget that lets us collect enough calls to judge the campaign, then adjust. I do not recommend a number before seeing your numbers.

Yes. Google Ads is managed online, so location does not limit the work. The time difference means we plan updates by WhatsApp and email at agreed times.

Not always. A simple, fast page with a clear call button and your service area can work. I will tell you after reviewing your current site.

Yes. I can audit it, show what is wasting budget, and fix structure, keywords and tracking, or suggest a clean restart if the old account is too messy.

No. Nobody can guarantee positions or a fixed number of leads on Google Ads. I can show you what I will set up, what I will track and how I will report.
